Research Highlights

Using Green’s function method, we construct a total energy formula for a microparticle suspended in a liquid crystal cell in the presence of external electric field. A Freedericksz-like positional transition triggered by electric field is discovered. The conditions for the transition to occur are discussed in terms of field direction, anchoring direction, and molecular dielectric anisotropy.
